2SOCIAL SECURITY ORIGINAL APPLICATION, Soc Sec #409-30-0711.
3 DATE 1942

I found Troy Griffin on the Social Security Index on www.ancestry.com. I sent for and received a copy of her original application. She stated that her mother was Nellie Arlena Rose and her father was Landon H. Smalling. I cannot make out the date, the year looks like maybe 1942. Residence, Bristol, Tenn, Birthdate 22 May 1905, Birthplace Knox County, Tennessee. Age at last birthday has a 3, can't read the other number. Mailing address at the time she applied: 513 Broad St., Bristol, TN.

3Personal Knowledge of Johnny Griffin and Prudence DeRose (About Troy Smalling).
Troy Lee Smalling told her son, Johnny Griffin that she was raised by aunt Carrie Pierce and uncle Jack Pierce. Personal Knowledge of Prudence DeRose, same story, she was told when she was little that Troy's parents died when Troy was little. Prudie did not remember any names. Prudie was only 6 years old when her father shipped her off to Chicago, and she never saw her mother again. So she doesn't remember any names of grandparents, aunt and uncle. Strange thing is, Landon didn't die until 1942. Troy and daughter, Prudence (6 months old) appear on the 1920, Middlesboro, Bell, KY Census, as boarders with Landon H Smalling and "Wife", Annie Smalling. Maybe Landon's second wife.
